Ejercicios de cálculo vectorial
Calcular la transformación ortogonal que nos permite diagonalizar
la siguiente forma:
\( \phi(x) = 2x^2 - 6xy + 10y^2\)
- Respuesta del
ejemplo 46
La matriz asociada a la forma planteada en el enunciado es :
\( \Omega = \begin{pmatrix} 2 & -3 \\ -3 & 10 \end{pmatrix}\)
Para hallar la transformación ortogonal que diagonaliza dicha
forma debemos calcular los valores propios de la matriz \( \Omega
\):
\( | \Omega - \lambda I | = 0 \Rightarrow \lambda ^2 - 12 \lambda
+ 11 = 0 \; \left\{ \begin{array}{l} \lambda _1 = 1 \\ \\ \lambda
_2 = 11 \end{array}\right. \)
Los vectores propios asociados a estos autovalores serán.
Para \( \lambda _1 \) :
\( \displaystyle\begin{array}{l}
\begin{pmatrix} 1 & -3 \\ -3 & 9 \end{pmatrix} \begin{pmatrix} x \\ y \end{pmatrix} = 0 \Rightarrow \\
\\
\Rightarrow x - 3y = 0 \; ; \; v_1 = (3, 1) \; ; \; e_1 = \left(\frac{3}{\sqrt{10}} , \; \frac{1}{\sqrt{10}}\right)
\end{array} \)
Para el otro valor propio tenemos:
\( \displaystyle \begin{array}{l}
\begin{pmatrix} -9& -3 \\ -3 & -1 \end{pmatrix} \begin{pmatrix} x \\ y \end{pmatrix} = 0 \Rightarrow \\
\\
\Rightarrow 3x + y = 0 \; ; \; v_2 = (1, -3) \; ; \; e_2 = \left(\frac{1}{\sqrt{10}} , \; \frac{-3}{\sqrt{10}}\right)
\end{array} \)
Por lo tanto, la matriz ortogonal de cambio será:
\( P = \displaystyle \begin{pmatrix} \frac{3}{\sqrt{10}} &
\frac{1}{\sqrt{10}} \\ \frac{1}{\sqrt{10}} & \frac{- 1}{\sqrt{10}}
\end{pmatrix}\)
Y se tendrá:
\( P \, ^t \Omega \, P = P^{-1} \Omega P = \begin{pmatrix} 1 &
0 \\ 0 & 11 \end{pmatrix} \Rightarrow \phi (x) = \tilde{x}^2
+ 11ˇ \tilde{y}^2 \)
La forma estudiada es definida positiva puesto que se tiene \( sig
\, \phi = (2, 0) \)
